August already!? How on earth did that happen… With another summer drawing to a close, I am once again reminded just how quickly the festival season seems to come and go. It’s not all doom and gloom though, as the impending W\u0113odm\u014dna\u00fe (also meaning August, if you don’t happen to read or speak Anglo-Saxon) can mean one of two things…<\/p>

  1. I am about to turn 23 years old.<\/li>
  2. BLOODSTOCK IS BACK!<\/li><\/ol>

    Bloodstock is actually the newest addition to the Satan Sells summer circuit, which is probably just as surprising to you as it is to me. In all honesty, I’m a little gutted I never made the trip before last year, because it only took one weekend for it to become one of the highlights of my festival calendar. Above all others Bloodstock really does champion it’s title of one of the UK’s largest independent festivals, and for once, I actually think a tagline lives up to reality…<\/p>

    “Run by fans for fans.”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>

    I’ll be the first to admit that me drooling over a festival I’ve attended precisely once comes across a little dramatic – but in all seriousness, Bloodstock is one of the very few gigs where the hype from its dedicated supporters actually matched my experience of the event, and I can certainly see why it has become so beloved over the last 25 years. And so, whether it’s the atmosphere, the sheer amount of new music to discover or the chance to see some of the biggest names in metal alongside tomorrow’s headliners that keeps people coming back, there’s something about Bloodstock that feels completely different to every other UK festival – maybe even a little bit magical. So, before we descend on Catton Park once again, here are the ten bands I’m most looking forward to seeing this year.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\n<\/div>\n

    Let’s be honest, no metal festival lineup ever feels complete without at least one legacy act, and this year we’re lucky enough not just to get one… but two New Wave heavyweights. I can’t think of a more fitting band to headline Bloodstock’s extra-special Thursday main stage slot than these Barnsley boys, and I’m especially looking forward to seeing Biff perform again following his battle with colon cancer late last year.<\/p>

    I’ve always thought it’s a shame that Saxon don’t quite occupy the same household-name status as Iron Maiden or Black Sabbath. While they may not have reached the same commercial heights, I’d argue they’re one of the greatest metal exports the North has ever produced. Their influence on British heavy metal is undeniable, and after nearly fifty years they’re still delivering the kind of high-energy performances that bands half their age would struggle to match.<\/p>

    With almost five decades of material to choose from, I’m expecting a set packed with classics, leather, denim and enough singalongs to remind everyone exactly why Saxon remain one of the genre’s most enduring and respected bands.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\n<\/div>\n

    Whether you know them as one of metal’s fastest-rising bands or simply as “Corey Taylor and Shawn Crahan’s sons’ band”, Vended have spent the last few years proving they deserve to stand on their own two feet. Their blend of metalcore and nu metal taps into the recent resurgence of the genre without ever feeling like a Slipknot tribute act, and that’s no easy feat given the comparisons they’ve faced from day one.<\/p>

    Of course, the “nepo baby” debate inevitably follows them wherever they go, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t curious. The real test for any band is whether they can win over a festival crowd that isn’t there specifically to see them, and Bloodstock feels like the perfect stage to do exactly that.<\/p>

    It’s been a few years since Vended last toured the UK, so I’m hoping this marks something of a comeback. Whatever your opinion on the band going in, I’m interested to see whether they can silence the sceptics and prove they’re more than just famous surnames.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\n<\/div>\n

    If there’s one band on this list that feels tailor-made for me, it’s Blood Countess. Blending second-wave black metal with the story of the infamous Countess Erzs\u00e9bet B\u00e1thory, their music sits right at the intersection of two things I can’t get enough of: heavy metal and dark history.<\/p>

    Working at the Dungeon has only fuelled my appreciation for bands that bring history to life through theatrical storytelling, and Blood Countess seem to do exactly that. Rather than using horror purely for shock value, they build an entire world around one of Europe’s most notorious historical figures, making them one of the most unique acts on this year’s lineup.<\/p>

    They’re also one of my most anticipated bands of the weekend, especially since I’ve somehow managed to miss every opportunity to catch them in York. Better late than never, I suppose, and I can’t think of a more fitting place to finally experience Blood Countess than at Bloodstock.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\n<\/div>\n

    Some bands make you question how they ever came to exist, and Party Cannon are… one of those bands for sure. The Scottish death metal outfit have built an infamous reputation for their chaotic blend of brutal riffs and ridiculous humour, proving that extreme metal doesn’t always have to take itself seriously.<\/p>

    In a genre often associated with darkness and intensity, there’s something weirdly refreshing about a band who completely embraces the absurdity of it all. From their famously colourful branding to their party-focused approach, Party Cannon have carved out a niche that feels completely unique within the death metal scene.<\/p>

    I’ve somehow made it this far without seeing what all the chaos is about, so Bloodstock feels like the perfect environment for their particular brand of organised madness. I have a feeling this will be one of the weekend’s most memorable sets.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\n<\/div>\n

    Sellsword are a band I’ve been intrigued by for a while. Combining classic heavy metal with fantasy-inspired storytelling, they embody the kind of theatrical world-building that feels completely at home at a festival like Bloodstock.<\/p>

    Their music taps into that same sense of escapism that has always been a huge part of power metal, creating a world of swords, sorcery and epic tales rather than simply relying on riffs alone. In a scene full of bands trying to be darker and heavier, there’s something refreshing about a group embracing fantasy with such enthusiasm.<\/p>

    I’ve had a couple of unexpected encounters with Sellsword over the years which have made me particularly curious about the band, so I’m interested to see how their live show changes my perspective. Sometimes it takes seeing a band in their natural environment for everything to finally click.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\n<\/div>\n

    Frog metal. Literally, what more could you want? Having already seen Froglord live before, I know exactly how much fun their bizarre but brilliant take on doom metal can be, and I’m excited to see how their amphibious empire continues to grow.<\/p>

    What initially sounds like a ridiculous concept has actually become one of the more interesting projects in the modern doom scene. Beneath the frog-themed chaos is a band with metly solos, a strong visual identity and a commitment to doing something completely different.<\/p>

    Their recent work supporting WWT and UK wetlands conservation has put them even higher in my books, showing that the concept extends beyond a gimmick and into something with legitimate meaning. A band making heavy music while championing environmental causes? I’m sold.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\n<\/div>\n

    There are some albums that become permanently tied to a particular stage of your life, and for me, Slave to the Scalpel is one of those records. When I was first getting properly into death metal, 200 Stab Wounds quickly became one of the bands that helped shape my taste for the genre’s heavier side.<\/p>

    Their old-school approach to death metal, combining brutal riffs with a raw and uncompromising sound, made them stand out during my early exploration of the genre. They represent that perfect balance of paying homage to death metal’s roots while still bringing something fresh to the table.<\/p>

    Bloodstock feels like the ideal setting for their sound, surrounded by fans who appreciate the genre in all its brutal glory. I’m especially hoping for something from Slave to the Scalpel – I think hearing those tracks in a live setting would be a pretty special full-circle moment.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\n<\/div>\n

    The nu metal resurgence has brought plenty of unexpected returns, but few feel as deserved as Kittie. As one of the genre’s most recognisable female-fronted bands, they’ve spent decades proving they were never simply a product of the early 2000s.<\/p>

    Their influence has only become more obvious in recent years, with a new generation discovering the aggression, attitude and unapologetic energy that made Kittie stand out in the first place. They helped pave the way for countless women in heavy music, making their legacy about far more than nostalgia.<\/p>

    After seeing them at Download 2025, I’m looking forward to experiencing that energy again at Bloodstock. Equal parts nostalgia, aggression and pure attitude, Kittie remain the ultimate nu metal girlboss icons.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\n<\/div>\n

    Wednesday 13 has always understood that heavy music is about more than just the riffs. Horror, theatrics and a healthy dose of camp have been at the centre of his career, making him a perfect fit for Bloodstock’s darker side.<\/p>

    As the frontman of Murderdolls, one of Joey Jordison’s most iconic side projects, Wednesday 13 is also tied to an era of metal that had a huge influence on my own taste. Their blend of horror imagery, punky sound and catchy hooks made them stand out in the early 2000s scene, and Joey’s legacy only adds to the significance of that project.<\/p>

    I’m looking forward to seeing how Wednesday 13 brings that same sense of performance and personality to the stage. With a career built around horror, chaos and larger-than-life visuals, I’m expecting a set that feels just as much like a show as it does a gig.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\n<\/div>\n

    From their unmistakable sound to their iconic leather-and-studs aesthetic, Judas Priest helped define what heavy metal looked like and sounded like. Their legacy stretches far beyond individual albums or songs; they helped create the blueprint that countless bands continue to follow today.<\/p>
