Not because I\u2019ve rebranded as a pop aficionado\u2026. The silence has been courtesy of my Master&#8217;s dissertation:<\/p>\n\n<p><em>\u201cAntichrist Superstar\u201d: Marilyn Manson as a Marketing Blueprint for the Extreme \u2013 Shock, Moral Panic, and Newsworthiness in the Music Industry Post-Columbine<\/em><\/p>\n\n<p>In essence, I\u2019m investigating how the Columbine massacre reshaped the marketing strategies of extreme music in the early 2000s, particularly how moral panic morphed into a sales tool, and whether Marilyn Manson epitomises the industry\u2019s capacity for leveraging outrage as a promotional engine.<\/p>\n\n<p>Once it\u2019s submitted and blessed by academia, expect the full thesis here, because if you\u2019re reading this post, you\u2019ll probably also enjoy 11,000 words on moral panics, goth bogeymen, and the mechanics of turning outrage into ticket sales.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2025 Festival Season: A Whistle-Stop Tour<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>Of course, it hasn\u2019t all been locked-in-a-library misery. Quite the opposite in fact! This summer has been my busiest festival run to date, and I&#8217;m lucky to have had these experiences on both a personal and research level:<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Slam Dunk North (Temple Newsam, Leeds \u2013 25 May 2025)<\/h3>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1920\" class=\"wp-image-341\" src=\"https:\/\/satansells.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/IMG_4332-edited-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/satansells.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/IMG_4332-edited-scaled.jpg 2560w, https:\/\/satansells.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/IMG_4332-edited-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/satansells.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/IMG_4332-edited-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/satansells.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/IMG_4332-edited-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/satansells.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/IMG_4332-edited-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/satansells.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/IMG_4332-edited-2048x1536.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2560px) 100vw, 2560px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p>Artists included A Day To Remember, The Used, and Electric Callboy\u2014whose neon\u2011saturated, pyro-packed set included \u201cElevator Operator,\u201d \u201cSpaceman,\u201d and of course, \u201cHypa Hypa.\u201d Their performance cleverly blended originals with covers, including a particularly poignant acoustic rendition of Linkin Park\u2019s \u201cCrawling,\u201d followed naturally by the Backstreet Boys\u2019 \u201cI Want It That Way.\u201d With their infectious energy and confetti galore, I felt Electric Callboy were the ones who really kick-started my summer of live music.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Download Festival (Donington Park, Derby \u2013 13-15 June 2025)<\/h3>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1920\" class=\"wp-image-339\" src=\"https:\/\/satansells.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/IMG_4803-edited-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/satansells.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/IMG_4803-edited-scaled.jpg 2560w, https:\/\/satansells.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/IMG_4803-edited-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/satansells.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/IMG_4803-edited-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/satansells.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/IMG_4803-edited-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/satansells.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/IMG_4803-edited-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/satansells.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/IMG_4803-edited-2048x1536.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2560px) 100vw, 2560px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p>Returning to Donington for my fourth consecutive year, headliners this time around were Green Day, Sleep Token, and Korn; marking a wide spectrum of heaviness from anthemic punk to nu-metal nostalgia and modern cult spectacle. Personal highlights included Cradle of Filth, who brought both their gothic theatrics and a marriage proposal to the Dogtooth Stage, and Sylosis, who sharpened the atmosphere with surgical riff precision. Between the heritage nostalgia and the new-wave headliners, Download once again proved why it\u2019s the UK\u2019s flagship heavy music gathering.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Back To The Beginning (Villa Park, Birmingham \u2013 5 July 2025)<\/h3>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"2418\" height=\"1813\" class=\"wp-image-337\" src=\"https:\/\/satansells.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/IMG_5076-edited.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/satansells.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/IMG_5076-edited.jpg 2418w, https:\/\/satansells.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/IMG_5076-edited-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/satansells.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/IMG_5076-edited-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/satansells.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/IMG_5076-edited-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/satansells.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/IMG_5076-edited-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/satansells.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/IMG_5076-edited-2048x1536.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2418px) 100vw, 2418px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p>This was billed as the final word from Black Sabbath, and it carried even more weight in the shadow of Ozzy\u2019s death. Seeing the band together felt less like a reunion and more like a memorial in motion; an acknowledgement of everything they created and the legacy they left behind. Classics like \u201cWar Pigs\u201d and \u201cParanoid\u201d carried not just the weight of heavy metal\u2019s history but also the resonance of a band truly closing the book on their legacy. The show reportedly raised over \u00a3140 million for Parkinson\u2019s and children\u2019s charities, solidifying itself as both a communal celebration and a cultural milestone.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Offal Fest (Rebellion, Manchester \u2013 25-27 July 2025)<\/h3>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"720\" height=\"540\" class=\"wp-image-335 aligncenter\" style=\"width: 800px; height: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/satansells.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/IMG_5501-edited.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/satansells.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/IMG_5501-edited.jpg 720w, https:\/\/satansells.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/IMG_5501-edited-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p>The third edition of Offalfest delivered a grotesque buffet of slam, gore, and brutal death metal. Skinless headlined with a full performance of Progression Towards Evil, their set inciting some of the most frenzied pits of the weekend. Chainsaw Castration, back from hiatus, offered one of the tightest and most energetic sets of the festival, whipping the room up and showing just how exciting extreme metal can be. Between the circle pits, stage divers and unapologetic gore themes, Offal Fest was a celebration of extremity in both sound and spectacle.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bloodstock Open Air (Catton Park, South Derbyshire \u2013 7-10 August 2025)<\/h3>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1920\" class=\"wp-image-333\" src=\"https:\/\/satansells.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/IMG_5439-edited-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/satansells.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/IMG_5439-edited-scaled.jpg 2560w, https:\/\/satansells.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/IMG_5439-edited-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/satansells.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/IMG_5439-edited-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/satansells.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/IMG_5439-edited-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/satansells.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/IMG_5439-edited-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/satansells.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/IMG_5439-edited-2048x1536.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2560px) 100vw, 2560px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p>My first Bloodstock was crowned by Gojira, whose headlining set blended seismic riffing with cinematic visuals to stunning effect. Earlier in the day, Feuerschwanz were my unexpected favourite discovery\u2014ridiculous, fun, and surprisingly excellent live. Between the medieval costumes, party chants, and serious musicianship, they\u2019ve shot straight to the top of my playlist, and I\u2019m very glad I took a recommendation to check these guys out. With Ozzy tributes all over the site, Bloodstock was a reminder of how much the genre owes him, even as it keeps evolving. Next year\u2019s lineup already looks strong, so much so I\u2019ve already bagged a ticket\u2026 Though I\u2019ve still got my fingers crossed they\u2019ll add Powerwolf into the mix to scratch my ongoing power metal itch.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What\u2019s Next<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>Once my dissertation is wrapped up, I\u2019ll be breaking down each festival properly in the coming weeks.
